My practice as a performance artist focuses on the exploration of identity and its relationship to society and popular culture.
My body is the site for personal and adopted movement vocabularies that are always gestural, cultural, and generational holding memory, history, and intention. I am interested in the way sound, image, media, clothing, and context create codes that infiltrate and control the body in unnatural and untruthful ways of being. I explore this interest by using my own body and identity to sample from resources found outside myself.
My exploration results in movement, images, costume, speaking, and singing that expound, explode and invert what I have sampled translating either literally or metaphorically. I also incorporate interaction with lo-fi media record players, voice recorders, music boxes, slide projectors. My process, whether solo or collaborative, includes improvisation, expansion, distillation, and composition of actions and materials in space.
